Japanese artists Seiko Mikami and Sota Ichikawa’s new work, Gravity and Resistance, combines a real-time, pressure sensor equipped floor and topographic map projection with a GPS tracking device above the gallery space.
The moment a participant stands and moves on the floor with a built-in sensor, the variation of his/her position, weight, and speed is automatically analyzed, and reflected on light, sound, and image, generating substantial spatial changes.
The installation is surveyed by GPS satellites, to expand our area of perception, and reveal that the installation site itself is no longer static but always moving by gravity in relativity.
