Single-button TV remote control for disabled

Japanese company Shimaken has developed a 69 x 111 x 55mm TV remote control device that enables handicapped individuals to control a TV and call for assistance by manipulating one large button.

Pressing the button for less than a second changes channels, while pressing it for over one second turns the set on or off.

If the controller is connected to a buzzer, the user can call for assistance by depressing the button for more than three seconds. The button is sensitive enough to enable users to easily operate it with a finger or a stick held in the mouth.

The device will go on sale at the end of this month for 22,000 yen (some 198.283 USD).
