RFID in stomach

Animal Industry Lab in Takayama have developed a healthcare system for cows. A relatively heavy RFID tag (15mm in diameter x 90mm; 100g) is put in a cow’s stomach (how do they put it there?). The tag has a temperature sensor for monitoring cows’ body temperature.

When a cow steps on scales, the sytem automatically capture the animal’s body temperature as well as weight. The system could be extended so as to additionally monitor cardiopulmonary, respiratory rate and childbirth information and to track cows with unique serial numbers.
