Incitement of social dialogue

Montreal stencil artist Roadsworth is currently facing criminal charges and a possible fine of 265,000 Canadian dollars for breach of public security.

He started over three years ago by stencilling cyclist symbols on the roads of Montreal to protest against the lack of bike paths and lanes.

When asked if his work doesn’t threat “public safety”, the artist answers: “I anticipated the safety concern. It almost seems ludicrous in the face of the existing safety concerns in the city with the sheer number of cars and the number of distractions in the form of advertisers’ images.”

More images and information. An interview and a day in the life of the artist.
Thanks Boris!
