Sleep music over cities

The Sky Orchestra project, by UK artist Luke Jerram, develops music specifically for sleeping people and delivers it out of the sky to explore how we can perceive an artistic experience while asleep.

Seven hot air balloons, each with speakers attached, take off at dawn to fly across a city. Each one plays a different element of the musical score creating a massive audio landscape.

The artists want to see how their music can affect people’s dreams, how it can be interpreted and incorporated into the dreams of the audience.

After each performance leaflets are delivered to homes and shops along the flight path and responses collected by email. A radio phone-in, is also arranged. The feedback affects the on-going development of the composition.
