Phototropism and robot

Photosynthesis Robot, by Amy Franceschini and Michael Swaine of Futurefarmers, is a possible perpetual motion machine driven by phototropism– the movement of plants towards the direction of the sun. The motion of the plants upon this four wheeled vehicle would propel slowly over a period of time.

It takes eight minutes for a photon of light to travel the 93 million miles from the sun to the Earth’s surface. Photosynthesis Robot would only a need a few seconds to capture the energy in that light, process it, and store it in the form of a chemical bond. Very exciting concept indeed…
