Two month ago, for reasons too long to explain here, I had to turn to a telephone booth to call my mother. I felt I was back to Middle Age.
This week, I read that Belgium is going to wave bye bye to 4,000 of the country’s telephone booths because almost everybody now calls from a mobile phone. UK has the same fate in store for some 15,000 red booths.
In front of that, I just feel tenderness towards these boxes. I wondered if somebody somewhere had had some inspiring and creative idea to use these boxes in a way that mobile phone couldn’t do.
The New York Times wrote about the Payphone Project today, its objective was to promote random contacts among complete strangers by listing public payphone numbers throughout America and everywhere else in the world.
