More about the use of SMS in politics

Spanish Partido Popular will send over 500.000 SMS of “pásalo: vota PP” (“Pass the word: Vote PP”) to its registered militants, hoping that they will spread the word by forwarding it to friends and relatives before the European elections of May 13.

The word “pásalo” was the one written on the SMS exchanged to convoke spontaneous and massive gatherings in front of the Party Head Office on March 13th two days after the Madrid bombing.

The first messages were sent last Saturday, and the rest will be sent over the next two weeks. The operation will be repeated between four and six times, using short phrases to evoke, in some cases, measures adopted or announced by the socialist party.

The Partido Popular had already used the system during the elections in Madrid, Catalonia and in May, although the receivers were the candidates themselves.
