Kids are having a fantastic time here at Transmediale playing with Camille Utterback’s “Untitled 5” installation.
Visitors can draw and paint by waving their arms, stepping on the floor or running from one part to the other of the installation. Their movements and position are detected by an overhead camera. With the movement of multiple people, a new set of brush strokes, compositions and colors are created. “Untitled 5” relies on the viewer to realize its full potential as highly kinetic painting, creating an intricate dance between computer algorithm and human gesture.
When i saw the pice, i felt extremely old. I just thought: “Oh, nice! fun! but it’s another room with an overhead camera and an interactive wall.”
Other works by the artist: Interactive snow ball.
