Two Flamish cities, Hasselt and Leuven are preparing a research project to create an interactive city information and communication platform providing local services, available on broadband Internet and Mobile Communications, for all citizens.
It will evolve around a research laboratory, called i-City, its missions will be:
– To give involved companies access to the latest technologies and developments on software and Mobile communication.
– to develop a City Wide experimental Mobile Communications platform (Currently Wifi 802.11, evolving towards upcoming technologies such as WiMax)
– to follow 4000 users who will test and experiment the developed applications.
