FamilyScrapbook

Another IDII thesis project I saw at the Greenhouse Effect show during the Salone del Mobile in Milan.

The FamilyScrapbook by the lovely Andreea Chelaru, aims at re-connecting remote families with the help of new technologies.

The application allows people to share snippets of their daily life with the rest of the family. Anyone can post digital pictures, music or messages that the whole family will receive on different devices. All these items are safely kept in a shared family space that everyone has access to.

FamilyScrapbook relies on a third party to provide storage space, to which different devices will be connected. On the user’s side, it’s an application — for the computer, the mobile phone or the television — that allows a quick view of new postings, facilitates fast uploads and has browsing capabilities.

As a separate application, it is easier to access than the web, and it allows more prominent alerts for new postings, creating a sense of family ambient presence.
