A system that detects counterfeit batteries

Counterfeit batteries for mobile phones and digital cameras are increasingly present on the market. But as they often fail to meet manufacturers’ safety and quality standards, using such batteries can lead to product malfunctions and personal injury.

NEC Electronics has developped a new software that detects counterfeit battery products in mobile phones and digital still cameras.

The system will be introduced in Japanese digital cameras by the end of the year. NEC Electronics is also considering extending this technology to “smart” keys, printers and ink cartridges, as well as bundling the technology into hardware options.
