Shigeru Ban’s temporary museum has taken up Pier 54 (Manhattan’s west side) to house the Ashes and Snow photo exhibition, on view from March 5 to June 6, 2005.
The Nomadic Museum is a 45,000-sq.-ft. space made of recyclable and reusable materials: 148 steel cargo containers for the walls, pressed paper tea bags for a hand-made curtain, paper tubing for the roof and columns.
Designed to be easily disassembled and reconstructed, the entire building will then travel to Los Angeles, Beijing and Paris.

More containers: the minimal truck, guerilla homes, living in a box.
