The Lecture-Machine

With Lecture-Machine, Canadian artist Michelle Kasprzak takes on the persona of a lecturer.

Before the performance, she wrote a text and read it into her computer using a Stenomask (a device to isolate the voice) and voice recognition software. The computer interpreted the text, making many errors.

During the performance, this version was read aloud by the computer, while Kasprzak reads the same text into the mask. This re-reading creates a third version of the text, which appears in text format directly into Powerpoint slides.

The performance questions the validity of the written over the oral, and challenges the relationship between human and computer.
