Taking your office on holiday

Two U.S. surveys demonstrate how leisure and work are getting increasingly connected.

A report by Avaya shows that during time off (be it nights, weekends or vacations), 85 % of workers pack their laptops, PDAs, mobile phones and other tech gadgets and 76 % regularly retrieve messages.

Unsurprisingly, 54 % sometimes feel “overwhelmed by pervasive communications,” 93 % of these people reported a “negative effect on quality of life” and some 61 % said that because of the new communications technologies, they work more hours, mostly because they do it on their own time. However, an Ipsos-Insight study shows that 72 % of U.S. consumers would welcome the “digital den” products (such as Ethernet media players, wireless digital media players, etc.), that would connect their home entertainment systems to the Internet.
