Urban ceramics

Swedish artist Ylva Franzén decorates tiles. The result is just dazzling.

Before studying at Konstfack (University College of Art, Craft and Design), she worked a lot with photography, painting and drawing. So she decided to combine her interest for pictures with what she was learning at school. She developed a technique of transferring photographic images to a silk screen and uses special ceramic colours to print on wet clay.

The tiles can be placed almost anywhere, indoors or outdoors, for functional purposes in bathrooms or kitchens and as decoration/pieces of art in recreation or rest areas.

She has recently installed a series of tiles on a wall outside the Landet restaurant in Stockholm. The motives were collected from buildings in that area. Her production is not at a factory stage yet, and the restaurant wall is her first attempt to make a larger collection. Hopefully it will lead to further contacts and production.
