Stand By Your Guns

Stand By Your Guns, by Brooklyn-based artist Jillian McDonald, is a website and CD-Rom that confronts us with the ubiquity of weapons and how violent simulations translate into real life shootings. It both glorifies and vilifies the handgun, masquerading as a children’s fun centre.

Visitors can watch gun-TV, play games, visit Charlton Heston via webcam in his rest home (when available), colour pictures of guns, pretend to shoot at their best friends, and print out their own slogans onto iron-on fabric for t-shirts.

The work won the Third Place Gallery Art Game competition. Other winners are Christopher Robin for his Pacman carpet and Feedtank with Dance Floor Moves.
