Spatial Graffiti

Spatial Graffiti, by Angus Chan, allows users to express their feelings with words, symbols, drawings, through the interaction with smoke and light.

The system works in a dark environment, with a data projector and a “magical” spray which is connected to the computer. Once the button is pressed, smoke is emitted and circulated around the room. A virtual drawing pad is made available. Light follows the path of the spray can. As the smoke is circulated around the dark room, you can see the graffiti by moving your viewpoint in space.

The interaction designer is working on an improved version which will include, among other features, the possibility for the user to adjust the size of the brush and change the spray colour by just using one hand, etc.

A third version will try to apply the invention to different environments, mainly it will be in the night club with more then one
data projector, so that the projection will be floating around the whole environment.
