Mobile operators join forces for new operating system

A number of mobile operators – including Vodafone, Orange, Telefoncia Moviles, TIM and T-Mobile – are planning a global alliance to enhance deals with handset makers and software suppliers and to introduce a new operating system standard for mobile phones. They would formulate new minimum levels of functionality and forward them to device makers and software suppliers. The operators also are interested in entering talks with Savaje Technologies, a developer of open-plan operating systems for mobile phones.
