Japanese mind reading gadget

Japanese Brain Functions Lab has a lie-dector device that is based on Emotion Spectrum Analysis. It measures brain waves using 10 electrodes positioned on a person’s scalp and can determine the levels of a person basic emotional states: mental stress, joy, sadness/depression, and relaxation.

So far, the ESAM system has been applied to design automobiles, monitor the effect of aromatherapy, evaluate the psychological response to TV commercials, monitor the mental state of people confined in a small space as a simulation of astronauts in a space lab, communicate with ALS patients in the final stage after losing their ability to express their will, etc.

Sharp is supposedly already using Emotion Spectrum Analysis to measure consumers satisfaction when listening to new audio equipment.
