Isle media is the largest publisher of Dutch Internet content. Maarten Baptist and Jan Habraken –WATdesign– are two young designers. The media company was relocating in Eindhoven, knew it would have to move again after a year or two and didn’t want to invest in lavish interior design for its new office. So they asked WATdesign to create a playful interior for them. Cheap.
The duo came up with a pixelated interior. SimCity-like props made from stickers affixed to cut-out sheets of aluminium cheer up the office. Red phone boxes conceal a cabinet with pigeonholes for snail mail, telegraph poles hide wiring and socket outlets and the caravan houses the printing area. Employees were invited to use stickers showing oversized pens, phones, paperclips, calculators, etc. as they wished.
In the canteen, the serving area is an ice-cream van and the tablecloth on the long table is a sticker featuring plates and cutlery.
