Internet aromatherapy service

Tokyo-based NTT Communications Corp. is testing a service that sends out smells according to data received over the Internet.

Users attach to their computers a device that resembles a crystal ball with a nozzle. It receives aroma data from the central server and exudes the corresponding fumes from the nozzle.

In a test version, the crystal ball sends combinations of 36 scents as horoscope readings: you insert your birthday into the computer and valves on bottles holding perfumed oils inside the crystal ball are electronically controlled to produce the scent that matches your sign.

It’s not yet clear how much the product will be sold for or if it will be released outside Japan.
