ig Nobel awarded tonight

The ten 2004 Ig Nobel Prize winners will be announced tonight during ther Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony which will also be webcast live .

Among last year’s winners were:
– some Australian researchers who won the physics award for their report “An Analysis of the Forces Required to Drag Sheep over Various Surfaces.”
– A team from University College London was awarded the medicine igNobel for presenting evidence that the brains of London taxi drivers are more highly developed than those of their fellow citizens.
– A scientist of Natuurmuseum Rotterdam, the Netherlands, was the winner of the biology award for documenting the first scientifically recorded case of homosexual necrophilia in the mallard duck.

– Probably inspired by their countries’ current politics, scientists of the University of Rome, and Philip Zimbardo of Stanford University, received the psychology award for the report “Politicians’ Uniquely Simple Personalities.”
– Yukio Hirose of Kanazawa University won the chemistry prize for his investigation of a bronze statue, in Kanazawa, that fails to attract pigeons.
