Developped during the Trans-Cultural Mapping: Iceland inside and out workshop, the GeoLed’s project of Annie On Ni Wans uses GPS data and a microcontroller to control a panel of LED’s.
The realtime location-based LED sculpture project reconstructs and reveals her experience during the workshop in Iceland towards the country’s special nature, i.e weather, duration of daylight in summer, natural resources, etc.
The LEDs flashing patterns show maps by various different cartographic methods such as temperature, active rift regions, glacier region, political boundry, etc. The alteration of both latitude and longitude streaming from a server drives the switching from pattern to pattern.
GeoLeds will be presented and exhibited in Art+Communication Festival 2004 in October in Riga, Latvia.
