The French Minister of Economy, Nicolas Sarkozy, has recently proposed a series of actions to fight illegal downloads of cultural contents from the web.
Web users making illegal peer-to-peer would first receive an e-mail warning them that if they don’t stop, they risk to be prosecuted by justice and be deprived of their Internet connection.
Other measures would be less drastic:
– promotion of legal online dowloads of music,
– before the end of the year, the record industry would increase from 300 000 to 600 000 the number of tunes availble for downloading online,
– France would strenghten its efforts to convince Europe to reduce the VAT on records and to adopt a common policy to fight piracy.
– a series of educational actions in shools.
