NODE.London [Networked, Open, Distributed, Events. London] will be a month long season of media arts projects across London in March 2006. The programme is to die for (if only i could be in Europe in March! Sigh!): Ruairi Glynn will be showing C.L.A.V.E., Stanza will be there with Sound Cities, Thomson & Craighead will present Decorative Newsfeeds, Christian Nold will draw the Greenwich Emotion Map, Lektrolab is organising two workshops: one workshop teaches how to hack games and make graphics for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the other teaches how to make animations and VJ with Amiga computers.

STRP, a festival at the intersection of art, technology and popular culture, runs in Eindhoven, on March 24-26. Highlights include: the fabulous Robotlab, ELF, the the cockroach controlled mobile robot, run motherfucker run, Spatial Sounds (one of my favourite works ever), Nervous, by German artist Bjoern Schuelke, a bright and fluffy hemisphere that becomes nervous, beeps and moves frantically when you approcah it.

001machin.jpg120_ulla_1.jpgMediamatic is organising a Machinima workshop. “Participants will be guided through Machinima production process by experts from the fields of gamedesign and animation. Besides technical instructions on set design, character creation, re-camming and post production, we will focus on cinematic and artistic possibilites of shooting film in 3d engines.” 14-17 March, Amsterdam.

Still at Mediamatic, lovely Hobby Princess Ulla-Maaria Mutanen (University of Helsinki, Finland) will be giving a Crafters Manifesto lecture on Wednesday, February 15, 8 pm.

Storyboard by Stefhan Caddick explores the text phenomenon. An LED sign facing the street from Gallery 39 in Cardiff will display SMS sent from members of the public to its receiver. To send a message to the sign text: 07929 461727 (add +44 if you’re texting from outside the UK.) The sign will be active from 11th February to 18th March 2006.
