Postvinyl, by Mathias Fuchs in collaboration with Oliver Farshi, Andy Odia and Michelle Jay, enables DJs to scratch in virtual environment.
On a hardware level the game is a hybrid of a digital computer with analogue sound modifications, content wise it is a hybrid of an exploratory 3D shooter with tunnels and corridors and a DJ performance set-up. The users is a virtual DJ who can start and stop vinyl records by jumping on the record players, picking up records and placing them on turntables. Moreover, special sound guns allow them to place spatialized sound sources in the environment.
The images seen by the virtual DJ avatar is projected in the club as the visual part of the performance.
