Browsing on a mobile device is quite cumbersome, so BEA Systems has developed Alchemy, a prototype technology, that includes an additional memory cache to get and store information that a user might want to view offline.
This system should allow mobile workers to get as much use from their applications when they are on the move as they would when they have a permanent connection to the Internet.
While Alchemy may overlap with some products already available (such as Sybase’s iAnywhere ), its originality is that it will be based on open standards and eventually donated to the open-source community, rather than kept as a proprietary product.
Besides, application interfaces for Alchemy are built with simple HTML tools so developers wouldn’t need to get too many new skills.
