There were several installations at Game, Set and Match II. One of them was Bamboostic, a project by the Hyperbody Research Group, led by Kas Oosterhuis, at the University of Delft.
One the one hand a forest of mechanised bambo trees, on the other a little red fish in its tank. The general direction and the curvature of the bamboo tree are directed primarily by the fish whose movements are tracked by a webcam. In addition, an active system within the forest tracks the movements between the trees. The movements of the people through the forest is detected and sent to the computer.
The two layers of activity are then combined into a “multilayered interactive response.” As the different trees have at some levels the same attractors but at a different strengh, an unpredictable swarm behaviour emerges.
