All Japan cellphones to have GPS in 2007

Mobile phones sold in Japan after April 2007 are likely to be GPS equipped in order to enable the identification of a caller’s position information in case of an emergency call.

It is forecasted that the dissemination rate of GPS-based mobile phones should be 50% in April 2009 and 90% in April 2011.

But Dottocomu is worried about the fact that automatic localization of a caller could mean “that anyone deemed to be an antisocial element or potential terrorist can be tracked at will.”
