The uber-talented guys at aether architecture are working on Ping Genius Loci.
This programmable space installation is the latest addition to the induction house series, developed together with Bengt Sjölén. Based largely on the research thread developed during the previous installations, Ping Genius Loci tries to achieve the programmable matter aspect of the induction house series on a much larger scale, with more direct interaction scenarios.
The installation’s self sustainable analogue pixels work outdoors, using solar power and radio communication, and can sense the presence of people.
The large interactive field made of 400 of these sensor pixels functions both as a sensor field and a large outdoor screen. At the same time interaction scenarios, games and functions are being developed, to open up architecture to its use.
