Miyagi Prefecture’s Fisheries Association in Japan is developing an RFID-based system to prevent fishermen from “stealing” fish from the prefecture’s sea area.
Awabi, an expensive shell fish, is one of the first fish to be tagged to prevent theft. So if buyers find “Miyagi Awabi” without its RFID tag, it would mean that the fish is either caught illegally or has been stolen.
