Pole Com/position

Pole Com/position stems from the idea that Midi controllers tend to be small and there are no large, expressive gestures that correspond to the “sonic scultping” that takes place on the laptop. The core of the Pole Com/position sound installation is a pole dance that creates various audio effects. A pole dancer modifies the music by climbing and twirling up, down and across the pole. The DJ can respond to the music created, heightening the DJ’s and the dancer’s performance in the process.

Pole Com/position incorporates various sensors that read the dancer’s movements. The information is then sent to Max/MSP and Ableton Live.

For future installations, the author of the project Jared Lamenzo, plans to have one pole control one effect, so that the mapping of the instrument is clear, and have multiple poles utilizing different dancerly movements.
