The increasing importance of the internet in the distribution of music has lead BBC Radio 1 to launch in September UK’s first official online music download chart.
Tracks sold on major legal download services such as iTunes, Napster and those provided OD2 will be collected to make up the chart.
The news comes as T-Mobile announced plans for a new mobile phone designed to meet the popularity of music downloads. Handsets equipped with new “ear phones” technology will enable the phone to be used as a digital music player.
