A prototype of R2D2 has been built by researchers at the MediaLab from the University of Pisa who wanted to build a kind of slave or companion robot with a friendly interface. This one’s taller than the original R2D2 (1,50 m) because explains Diego Colombo “to interact with humans, its eye (a camera) couldn’t be placed too low.” By the way, the robot has been programmed to recognize light sabres!
The robot walks (with 2 or 3 legs on wheels), beeps like the original, responds to voice commands, comes with bluetooth, wireless connection and usb.
It can be programmed to be used in museums, hospitals, and one day even at home.
