Evan Roth’s Graffiti Analysis makes visible the unseen movements of graffiti artists in the creation of a tag. Motion tracking sensors and computer vision technology analyze these movements to produce digital projections that appear at night on surfaces of buildings.
For the project, Roth captures on video graffiti artists at work in his studio then processes the video on a computer, which creates animations that he then projects onto buildings for viewers to encounter as they would graffiti art.
The Graffiti Analysis application will be on display for the Design and Technology 2005 Thesis Exhibition in the Parsons gallery starting this Wednesday, May 25th, from 6-8pm at 66 5th Ave. (NYC).
