The work of the Kolkoz duo -Benjamin Moreau and Samuel Boutruche- plays with the effects of simulation.
Film de vacances is a living room where visitors can watch a 3D version of the holiday movies that Kolkoz shooted in Hong Kong in 2002. You can watch Samuel and Benjamin traveling from the airport to the hotel, from the hotel to downtown or taking taxis, subways and trains. The digitized version of the film shifts the touristy experience of their movements from the ordinary to the hyper-ordinary.
The banality of the everyday scenes seen in their “home movie” are in sheer contrast with the technological aspect of digital images. The installation revolves around the idea of lies: a fake reality becomes virtual. The virtual world is also reflected in the colour of the furniture: grey, the colour of computers and technological instruments.
The work include three installations based on 3 different holiday movies: Hog Kong, New York and Formentera.
See the installation at the Notre Histoire exhibition, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, until
Tomorrow Wednesday 22, Kolkoz will be speaking and screening some projects at the Centre Interdisciplinaire de Recherche sur l’Esthétique du Numérique, in Paris.
