Fines amounting to £450,000 have been imposed on 6 companies responsible of a mass of spam and scam text messages. These companies were sending unsolicited text messages, making unsolicited phone calls and using automated calling equipment to leave ‘missed calls’ on mobile phones.
The aim was to trick people into calling premium rate numbers to claim prizes that either didn’t exist or, at most, were below what was promised.
