The BIX Media Façade by Jan and Tim Edler of the realities:united architects from Berlin has been nominated for the “Inspire Award“.

BIX is a kind of “communicative display skin”, fusing architecture, technology and information for the Kunsthaus Graz in Austria.

This matrix of 925 fluorescent tubes of 40 Watt was integrated into the eastern Plexiglas facade of the Kunsthaus. The brightness of each lamp can be adjusted at an infinite variability with 20 frames/second images allowing films and animations to be displayed.
Thus the original architectural concept of the skin was radically redefined transforming the facade into a low resolution computer display.
