The Spanish Mediterranean Coast expects the visit of some 45.000.000 tourists coming with their mobile phones this summer. But the 4.200 antennas already installed in the most frequented spots won’t be able to cope with a trafic multiplied by three (by up to 5 in some regions) in July and August. To avoid blackouts and saturations, the network infrastructure has to be reinforced. But as local municipalities refuse to authorise the installation of 2000 new antennas, Spanish mobile operators had to resort to a triple Plan B:
– a device that rejects calls the system cannot handle in order to avoid the fall of the network.
– portable containers with antennas installed in main beaches, ,
– vans acting as base stations to cover zones where the situation is most precarious.
