Paris public transport company RATP will launch next week a public trial of wifi buses.

Travellers will be able to connect their PDAs and notebooks with the bus’ on-board hotspot. The connectivity is provided at Wi-Fi speeds only when the vehicle passes within range of a fixed hotspot, then it is maintained through a GPRS link. The system will hop between the two network technologies to ensure seamless access sessions.

The system should also allow bus drivers and staff to exchange traffic information and provide travel data to passengers.

Well, I’m not sure I’d enjoy wifi in a bus, I would be too stressed to miss my stop.
