Papel Picado (“punched paper” in Spanish) is a traditional folk art used in Mexico to create cut-out drawings and decorations. During the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) on November 2nd, papel picado banners feature skeletons in a variety of poses.
Armada
Dylan Graham’s work uses the papel picado technique to depict dramatic global events. In Armada, the conquering Spanish galleons contrast with the dancing skeletons, emblematic of the Dia de Los Muertos.
