Fearing that “if it’s not on Google it doesn’t exist” or just out of curiosity, people search for their name on the famous website. But result does not always bring complete satisfaction and since employers scan Google too to get information about candidates for a position in their enterprise, people are starting to use the Web in a strategic way, creating their own Blog in order to shape their public image.
“Web logs are the best tool for creating and maintaining your identity, but they also afford the ability to reply to and re-contextualize negative things about you on the Net,” Mayfield (CEO of Socialtext, a provider of enterprise social software) told NewsFactor. “Every hire I have made has been a blogger.”
