The Japanese telecoms company, NTT DoCoMo said it has developed a device to control home electronics equipment with a mobile phone. Once the system is fully tested, users will be able to:
– turn on air conditioners or house lights on and off,
– encode the recording of a TV program that could then be watched on 3G videophone handsets linked through NTT DoCoMo Foma network to the device,
– or view live video footage from a home security system should the unit’s built-in motion sensor detects movement.

The controller is equipped for both infrared and cable connection to appliances in the home. It has a USB port for connection to computers and a further I/O port for connecting up external sensors. It connects to DoCoMo’s Foma network using a PC data card. Video can be transmitted to or from Foma, so your partner can show you what they’re up to on your own wide-screen TV.
