Farrah Sit from the Rhode Island School of Design has received the I.D. Magazine Design Distinction for the Pod Massager
The portable massaging device uses some of the mechanical and electrical components of a handheld, battery-operated screwdriver.
Sit machined and press-fit an off-centered weight onto a small motor, encased and wired it to batteries, then sheathed it in rubber to distribute the vibration. She then housed the massaging motor in a soft, comforting scarf. The pea-green textile can be draped over shoulders, wrapped around the body or slung over the back of a chair.
