The Malaysian rock band Search is to sell its next album (as well as its VCDs and previous discs) via SMS. The hope is to offer their music at a cheaper price.
However, the idea leaves ground for doubts: it breaks habits of entering a record shop and getting your CD immediately, as the process takes 5 to 7 days (from the moment you send the sms to the day it is actually delivered to you by post). You’ll also have to encode information about you, such as your IC or passport number (for more about the registration).
Furthermore, a comment on the Textually blog added that: “If that is going to happen in the UK and the CD is not listened to on the phone then what they plan is illegal – against FSA regulations.”
