Two gems from wonderful Internet Archive.

Leave It to Roll-Oh, a film shown at the New York World's Fair in 1939, stars a domestic robot freeing housewives of their chores. It was actually a promo showing how relays and switches function in the modern automobile. (thanks Paul.)

Perversion for Profit. The propaganda film produced by financier Charles Keating in 1965 attempts to link explicit portrayals of human sexuality to a Communist conspiracy and the subversion of American civilization. The movie illustrates its claims with still images taken from various soft core porn magazines, though with some portions of human anatomy obscured by colored rectangles.

Remember the Bikini lifejackets or the Nipple enhancers Samantha and Miranda were wearing in Sex & the City?

Well, Doria Fan has something better for you (unless you'd rather go for drastic solutions.)

inflatabledress524.jpg

Her Inflatable Breasts Dress allows you pump up your breasts to whatever size you want, and adjust them on the fly. Because of the location of the valves, you can inflate your breasts before you put on the dress, or have someone else blow them up for you while you wear it.

One wearer said the dress was very comfortable and also gave her a different sense of personal space. With large inflated breasts, she felt like she had a protective zone.

In order to ensure that spirits have lots of good things in the afterlife, Chinese mourners burn paper presents for the deceased, such as luxury villas, phones, houses and even paper money. But the fear of having evil spirits seize the offered money and goods cause the families to burn also Hell notes, money-like paper with imprints under the authorization of the "Bank of Hell".

Over the past two years, officials have discovered people burning paper offerings of Viagra, their mistresses and even Supergirls — dolls modelled on winning contestants of the Pop Idol spin-off on Chinese TV.

The Chinese Government finds it way too vulgar and has issued new regulations on funerals this week. At the top of the list is a ban on the burning of paper models of such items as condoms and karaoke hostesses. Under the new funeral and interment regulations, citizens whose offerings are deemed to be vulgar could face fines.

In the run-up to the Tomb Sweeping Festival — when paper models are burned at ancestors’ gravesides — state media hailed a new trend in e-Tomb-Sweeping to beat the crowds at cemeteries and crematoriums. One click and relatives can light candles, burn incense and offer flowers and songs. However, most people still visit family graves.

Marta has a great roundup of links related to love dolls.

bobclark.jpg

One of them sends to an article about the Real Doll Doctor, a man who's job is to repair the world’s most lifelike love dolls, manufactured by Abyss Creations (who has also received requests for a Real Dog and Real Children, but the company firmly turns those customers away.)

Besides, the man not only buys and sells used dolls, he also welcomes the dolls the factory won’t sell: those that came out of the mold damaged or disfigured. With a little time and silicone, the doctor can fix almost anything. But a broken doll isn’t a problem. Plenty of people, the Doll Doctor says, just want a doll’s torso.

To Marta's links i'll add: Inflatable dolls rafting tournament, Tokyo love-doll call-girl service, Still-Lovers series by Elena Dorfman, and the super-weird Japanese pro-wrestling love dolls. Image from Bob Carlos Clarke's (RIP) love dolls.

Sex Madness is free to download on Internet Archive. This sex exploitation film, directed by Dwain Esper in the 1930s, capitalized on taboo subjects such as venereal disease, sex before marriage, lesbianism, etc. while skirting the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930 which forbade a film from containing such content.

Films like this would tour the US - mostly being shown in rundown, skid row theaters. This film has been re-edited and re-titled ("Human Wreckage", "They Must Be Told", "Trial Marriage", "About Trial Marriage") many times to attract the same audience to film, to take advantage of a taboo subject which may have gotten press recently or to appease local censors who disapproved of the film's content.

I saw several porn-themed works at the Salone del Mobile. All of them by French designers.

My favourite was Ceram X, Pierre Charpin’s new collection of vases and boxes (more on flickr).

Then plates and trays by Pierre Ardouvin. Made in Porcelaine de Limoges, they are decorated with pictures from old calendars, posters or postcards (more images).

Olivier Peyricot was showing the Plateaux Vivre Nu for the République Libre du Design show at the Centre Culturel Francais. The installation aims to incite us to regain possession of our house by means of nudism. (in case you were wondering: no, i don't really know what it means either).
