For the Camera Club series, Chris Verene and a female accomplice infiltrated the world of “camera clubs,� groups of middle-aged photographers who lure young women into modeling nude or seminude by placing classified ads in newspapers and pretending to be professional fashion photographers. Verene posed as one of them. By positioning himself behind the men and pretending to be tinkering with his material the artist could turn his camera on his already distracted "colleagues" without arousing their suspicion.

Pandora’s Box, located in a 4,000 square feet Manhattan loft, describes itself as "a Disneyland of Domination" and advertises "a wild vacation from reality". Mistress Raven heads a staff of 14 mistresses in her house of domination and role-playing where the rules and rituals are formalised. In the late '90s, Susan Meiselas witnessed the intimate moments of the sex workers and their customers and documented it in her Pandora’s Box series.

Leave It to Roll-Oh, a film shown at the New York World's Fair in 1939, stars a domestic robot freeing housewives of their chores. It was actually a promo showing how relays and switches function in the modern automobile. (thanks Paul.)

Perversion for Profit. The propaganda film produced by financier Charles Keating in 1965 attempts to link explicit portrayals of human sexuality to a Communist conspiracy and the subversion of American civilization. The movie illustrates its claims with still images taken from various soft core porn magazines, though with some portions of human anatomy obscured by colored rectangles.

In order to ensure that spirits have lots of good things in the afterlife, Chinese mourners burn paper presents for the deceased, such as luxury villas, phones, houses and even paper money. But the fear of having evil spirits seize the offered money and goods cause the families to burn also Hell notes, money-like paper with imprints under the authorization of the "Bank of Hell".

Over the past two years, officials have discovered people burning paper offerings of Viagra, their mistresses and even Supergirls — dolls modelled on winning contestants of the Pop Idol spin-off on Chinese TV.

The Chinese Government finds it way too vulgar and has issued new regulations on funerals this week. At the top of the list is a ban on the burning of paper models of such items as condoms and karaoke hostesses. Under the new funeral and interment regulations, citizens whose offerings are deemed to be vulgar could face fines.

In the run-up to the Tomb Sweeping Festival — when paper models are burned at ancestors’ gravesides — state media hailed a new trend in e-Tomb-Sweeping to beat the crowds at cemeteries and crematoriums. One click and relatives can light candles, burn incense and offer flowers and songs. However, most people still visit family graves.
